Write a job posting with AI
You get a clear job posting with tasks, hours, pay, and requirements, plus five fair screening questions to ask every applicant. It takes about 20 minutes with the free version of ChatGPT. You describe the role and pay once, then check the posting against your local hiring rules.

What you need
- A free ChatGPT account
- The role, hours, pay range, and location
- Three to five things the person will do each week
Copy this prompt
Write a job posting for my small [type of business] in [city]. Role: [job title]. Hours: [hours]. Pay: [pay range]. Weekly tasks: [3 to 5 tasks]. Use plain language. List must-have requirements separately from nice-to-haves, and keep must-haves to what the job really needs. Do not mention age, gender, or any personal traits. Then write 5 screening questions that I can ask every applicant, based only on the job tasks.
Steps
- Write down the role, hours, pay range, and 3 to 5 weekly tasks.
- Open ChatGPT, paste the prompt above, and fill in the [brackets].
- Read the posting. Cut any requirement you do not truly need.
- Ask the same five screening questions of every applicant and take notes yourself.
Test it yourself (15 minutes)
- Make up a role: part-time front desk at a small gym, 20 hours a week.
- Run the prompt and check that the must-haves are only what the job needs.
- Check that no screening question asks about age, family, or health.
- Note what you changed. It shows which requirements AI adds by habit.
Check this yourself
- Pay, hours, and location are correct.
- Must-have requirements are really needed for the job.
- No wording that excludes people for reasons unrelated to the job.
- The posting follows your local hiring and pay-transparency rules.
Mistakes and limits
- AI may add requirements you do not need, such as a degree. Remove them.
- Do not use AI to rank or reject applicants. Use it only to write the posting and questions.
- Check local hiring and pay-transparency rules before you post.
Variations
- Ask for a version under 100 words for a social post.
- Ask for a day-in-the-life paragraph to help applicants picture the job.
