Privacy policy
Short version: we collect as little as we can, and we never sell it.
Last updated October 23, 2026. Plainly Guide runs this site. Questions go to contact@plainlyguide.com.
What we collect
- Your email address, only if you sign up for the newsletter. We also keep the date you signed up and how (which form), so we can show we had your permission.
- Anonymous visit statistics (pages viewed, country, browser and device type, referring site) from Cloudflare Web Analytics. It does not use cookies and does not follow you across sites. It does not build a profile of you.
- Emails you send us. If you write to us, we keep the message so we can reply.
- Newsletter engagement (opens and clicks), once the newsletter is running, if our email service records them. You can turn off image loading in your email app to avoid open tracking.
Why we use it, and our legal basis
- To send the newsletter you asked for. For readers in the EU, UK, and similar places, our basis is your consent. You can withdraw it at any time.
- To understand which pages help people, so we can fix and improve them. Our basis is our legitimate interest in running a useful site, using data that does not identify you.
- To answer your emails.
Who else handles your data
- Cloudflare hosts the site and provides the analytics above. It sees visitors' IP addresses as part of delivering web pages.
- An email service provider will store newsletter addresses and send the emails once the newsletter opens. We will name it here before we collect any address.
- Our email inbox provider, for messages you send to contact@plainlyguide.com.
These companies process data for us under their own terms. We do not sell your data or share it for advertising. Some of them are based in the United States, so your data may be processed there.
Cookies
We do not set advertising or tracking cookies. If we ever add anything that needs them, we will say so here and ask first where the law requires it. Links to other sites, including affiliate links, may set cookies on those sites. That is covered by their policies, not ours.
How long we keep it
Newsletter addresses stay until you unsubscribe. After that we keep only a record that you opted out, so we do not email you again. Emails you send us are kept for as long as needed to help you, then deleted. Analytics data is kept by Cloudflare under its own schedule.
Your choices and rights
- Unsubscribe from any email with the link at the bottom, or write to us and we will remove you.
- Ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or ask for a copy. Write to contact@plainlyguide.com. We aim to answer within 30 days.
- If you are in the EU or UK you can also object to processing or complain to your local data protection authority. California residents can ask what we collect and ask us to delete it. We do not sell or share personal information as those laws define it.
Children
This site is for adults running or working in a business. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you think we have, tell us and we will delete it.
What we ask you not to share
Recipes tell you not to paste private customer data into AI tools. Please also do not email us customer or payment details.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date above. If we start collecting something new, we will say so here before we do.
